Connect Stripe to Your Website
Take card payments from customers abroad in dollars, pounds or euros, straight into your own Stripe account.
Stripe is the one to use when your customers are outside Africa — paying in dollars, pounds or euros with an international card. The money goes into your own Stripe account.
1. Open a Stripe account
Sign up at stripe.com. Stripe is not available in every country — check their list before you spend time on it. If Stripe does not support yours, use Paystack or Flutterwave instead.
2. Find your secret key
In the Stripe dashboard, open Developers, then API keys.
- the publishable key (
pk_...) is not the one - the secret key (
sk_test_...orsk_live_...) is
Stripe hides the live secret key after it is first shown, so copy it carefully when you create it.
TaniX also accepts a restricted key (rk_...), which is the safer choice if you know how to make one: give it write access to Checkout and Payment Intents and nothing else.
Treat the secret key like your bank password. One box, in step 3. Nowhere else.
3. Paste it into TaniX
Open your website's Admin Panel → Payments.
- Choose Stripe
- Paste the secret key
- Choose your currency
- Save
It is stored encrypted and never sent to your page.
4. Test, then go live
With sk_test_... in place, buy something on your own website using Stripe's test card 4242 4242 4242 4242, any future date, any CVC. Check the order lands in Payments.
Then paste the sk_live_... key and save.
Things worth knowing
- Currency matters. If you price in dollars and your customer's card is Nigerian, their bank decides the rate and may refuse it. For local customers, Paystack or Flutterwave will convert better than a card network will.
- One account, every website.
- The Academy takes nothing. Stripe's fees are Stripe's.
